Our tow truck fleet

Our Fleet of Sydney Tow Trucks and Tilt Trays

Over 20 Trucks to Suit Loads of All Sizes

We run over 20 trucks, so the one that turns up is matched to the weight and size of what you need moved. Our fleet runs from tilt trays carrying 4.2 tonnes up to prime movers with low loader trailers carrying 24 tonnes, and we have been matching the truck to the job since 1994.

If you are not sure which truck fits your load, call our team, and we will advise. Our guide on what type of tow truck you need explains how the main truck types differ, and our towing resources and guides cover loading tips and preparation checklists.

Up to 4.2 Tonnes: Light Tilt Trays

A tilt tray is a tow truck with a flat deck that tilts back and slides to the ground. The vehicle or machine is winched or driven onto the deck, then carried with every wheel off the road. These trucks carry much of our everyday car towing work.

5.2 to 6 Tonnes: Tilt Trays and Flat Tray

This group adds our only flat tray. A flat tray, also called a flatbed, carries the load on a fixed deck that doesn't tilt, so it's loaded by ramp instead. The tilt trays here are the trucks behind our tilt tray hire, while the flat tray handles our flatbed towing.

8 to 10 Tonnes: Lazy Axle Tilt Trays and Forklift Low Loader

Most of these tilt trays run a lazy axle, an extra axle that spreads the weight so the truck can carry more. The Mercedes is a prime mover, the truck unit that pulls a trailer. It's paired with a low loader whose deck sits close to the road, giving tall-masted forklifts room overhead. The tilt trays in this group take on our truck towing work, while the Mercedes low loader covers our forklift transport.

12 to 14 Tonnes: Heavy Tilt Trays

Our two heaviest tilt trays carry loads that need more capacity than a standard tilt tray offers. They handle heavier machinery transport jobs that still suit a tilt tray deck.

20 to 24 Tonnes: Prime Movers With Low Loaders

Our two Freightliner prime movers each pull a low loader trailer, making them the largest combinations in our fleet. They handle our heaviest machinery transport, along with heavy vehicle towing and oversized load transport.

We approached Select Tilt Tray Group to transport a 10T forklift from Sydney to Gloucester. The machine was collected without hassle and delivered to our workshop on schedule. Definitely the name in forklift transport, no one has the experience or equipment these guys do. Highly recommend 5 stars.

Today, Rick delivered, with his tilt truck, an old caravan that we bought. He was very careful, and the van arrived perfectly well at our place. I am very pleased to share this review with everyone as we are very happy with ‘Select Tilt Tray Group’. The team is super friendly, the offer was fair and they were also very quick to do the delivery. Communication with them was super easy, phone calls and emails etc. We are very happy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a tilt tray and a flatbed?

A tilt tray’s deck tilts and slides back to the ground, so the vehicle or machine is winched or driven straight on. A flatbed, or flat tray, keeps its deck fixed and is loaded by ramp instead. We run both: 11 tilt trays carrying up to 6 tonnes for tilt tray hire, plus a Nissan flat tray with ramp carrying 5.2 tonnes for flatbed towing.

A lazy axle is an extra axle that helps the truck spread and carry more weight. Five of our heavier tilt trays run one, with capacities from 8 to 12 tonnes, which is why they handle truck towing and loads too heavy for a standard tilt tray.

Yes. Our Mercedes 400hp prime mover tows a low loader set up for tall masted forklifts and carries up to 10 tonnes. The low deck gives the mast more room overhead. Our guide to relocating forklifts in Sydney covers what to consider before the move, and our forklift transport team can advise on your machine.

Our largest prime mover and low loader carries up to 24 tonnes. A second Freightliner and low loader carries 20 tonnes, and our Volvo 8-wheeler tilt tray carries 14 tonnes. For heavy equipment, our heavy machinery transport team matches the load to the truck with the capacity to carry it.

You don’t need to choose the truck yourself. Tell us what the load is, its approximate weight and whether it can be driven or needs to be winched on, and we allocate the truck before the job is booked. For moves you can plan, our guide to booking planned vehicle transport explains how the booking works.

Yes. The whole fleet works from our Smeaton Grange base, including the heavy tilt trays and low loaders, and covers the Illawarra, the Blue Mountains and the Central Coast as well as Sydney. Our service areas list every region and suburb we cover.
